Breakthrough of the Caldecott Tunnel's Fourth Bore Marks a Major Project Milestone
OAKLAND – Today, Caltrans announced it has reached a milestone with the breakthrough of the top portion of the Caldecott Tunnel's fourth bore – joining the tunnel's eastern and western sides and bringing the region one step closer to traffic congestion relief. The $391 million project is primarily funded ($180 million) through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 (Recovery Act); through a local transportation sales tax (Measure J) passed by Contra Costa voters in 2004; and by Regional Measure 2 (Bay Area bridge tolls).
