| Quarterly Activities/Project Description |
The State Fiscal Stabilization Fund is used for the support of public elementary, secondary, and postsecondary education and early childhood education programs and services.
The State of South Carolina is using its SFSF funds in order to further the four reform areas, both through direct and indirect use. Many districts are paying for salaries for teachers and other positions, directly saving jobs. However, other districts have chosen not to use SFSF directly for teacher salaries, as this would cause them to lose their teacher salary supplements and would result in less total money in the district. These districts are using the funds for a variety of other puposes including utilities and other vendor expenses needed to keep schools running. Even though these districts may not be paying for salaries directly, they are nevertheless saving jobs abd furthering the four reform areas.
In the technical colleges, the SFSF funds have been used to increase and retain adjunct faculty and staff in order to meet the needs of increased enrollment. In addition, the colleges have expanded programs in emerging economic sectors such Nuclear Energy and energy efficiency projects; purchased new lab equipment and upgraded educational technology material in order to effectively train and prepare students for workforce; and modernized and renovated student centers and buildings. |
