Quarterly Activities/Project Description Most of the project activities have focused on project management and construction related tasks. Project management duties have included federal compliance and reporting documentation, Rockbridge Area Network Authority (RANA) board meetings, continued development of an operations guide, and construction management. Construction work on the data center is complete. All of the conduit, fiber, and cabinets have been delivered. Cabinet construction and conduit installation construction are both making substantial progress.

Infrastructure Purpose and Rationale The Rockbridge Area Network Authority (RANA), a public/private partnership through the broadband initiative will construct 106 miles of new broadband fiber to bring broadband services to communituy anchor institutions in support of improved health care, education, and public safety, linking 95 percent of all public safety entities along with construction of a data center serving as the hub of the network. The network will also connect a vast majority of the K-12 schools and health care facilities with high bandwidth broadband Internet. This will help to preserve and create jobs throughout the Rockbridge region as well as spur technological advances locally in health care with the health care facilities having access to high bandwidth broadband.
