UNIVERSITY OF ARKANSAS SYSTEM
We respectfully request administrative supplemental support to provide summer research experiences for students and science educators. Specifically, we plan to employ one pre-baccalaureate undergraduate and one post- baccalaureate graduate student plus one science educator per year for the summers of 2009 and 2010. We will introduce these student scientists and current science teachers to laboratory studies in molecular aspects of the aging process, and thereby hopefully, raise interest in and awareness of the fascinating research that is currently ongoing in the aging field. It is our goal to enable these individuals to ponder key questions about promoting health and maintaining function in the rapidly growing number of older Americans. We aim to foster in these individuals the development of new ideas for future aging research and also enhance the growth and enrichment of tomorrow's contributors to the basic and clinical aspects of the gerontological sciences.
