UNIVERSITY OF NOTRE DAME DU LAC
Phase-changing ionic liquids for CO2 capture. Project code:2010000. Proposal abstract:The specific objectives of this project are to develop and characterize phase change ionic liquids (PCILs) for post-combustion CO2 capture, evaluate the potential energy savings in an innovative CO2 capture process configuration, and demonstrate the technology at laboratory scale. The project will take this embryonic technology, currently at TRL 2, to TRL 4.

Milestone 1.3.1: An operational quantity of PCIL has been prepared for use in the demo facility. More will be prepared as the needs of the demo facility dictate.
No subtasks or milestones were due in this reporting quarter for Task 2; however, work work was performed on subtask 2b in support of preparing the demonstration unit for operation by understanding PCIL properties more fully.
No subtasks or milestones were due in this reporting quarter for Task 3; however, work was performed on subtask 3b to measure parameter of NDIL0082 and to ensure quality control of the PCIL production.
Milestone 6.3.1 was not completed this quarter due to delays in completing the assembly of the demonstration unit. Milestone 6.3.2 is also delayed until data is collected from the operation of the demonstration unit.
Subtask 7.3.1 is delayed and Milestone 7.3.1 was not achieved during this reporting quarter. However, the construction of the demonstration unit is nearly completed at the end of the current reporting quarter. Construction and commissioning should be complete early in the next reporting quarter. Subtasks 7.3.2-7.3.3 and Milestones 7.3.2-7.3.3 have been delayed due to the delay of subtask 7.3.1. Subtask 7.3.2 and Milestone 7.3.2 will be accomplished early in the next reporting quarter. This timing is in accord with a revised schedule which assumes a 6-month, no-cost, time extension. |
