RESEARCH TRIANGLE INSTITUTE
This award was funded to support 1 full time employee and 1 part time graduate-level intern in the field of public health research. The positions will be assigned to assist in the implementation of ongoing HIV research activities to support the collection and harmonization of data, which is used to address unique and evolving HIV/AIDS research questions and improve HIV care and treatment. The employment opportunities will offer an excellent training ground for emerging public health professionals in the conduct of an international research and provide valuable experience in monitoring, evaluating and publishing results from a study of Kaposi's sarcoma in HIV-infected individuals. The positions will also provide the opportunity to work with foreign sites to strategize and develop methods to improve retention of patients receiving ARV treatment. A key component of the positions created with ARRA funding is to increase the dissemination of research findings, thus strengthening the existing HIV literature and increasing understanding of HIV and AIDS-associated malignancies. The proposed activities are consistent with the goals of PEPFAR to expand prevention, care, and treatment in generalized epidemics and to invest in operations research to evaluate impact, improve service delivery and maximize outcomes.
