RESEARCH TRIANGLE INSTITUTE
RTI will support Columbia University and Boston University in a collaborative study of the exposure and biological impacts of passive tobacco smoke exposure on adults and potentiall children. This support will come in several forms including: a) building and making available 6 RTI personal MicroPEMs with combined real-time sensing and 25mm Teflon filter collection capabilities for field studies potentially scheduled between 11/1/10 and 5/30/11, b) consulting time for Dr. Rodes to meet with counterpart experts from the 2 universities in planning the field study and analysis details, c) gravimetric analyses for up to 50 filters to provide validated mass concentration data, d) optical absorbance reading of up to 20 filters for black carbon and tobacco smoke to provide validated data, e) consulting time for Dr. Rodes to review the collected data and assist in the interpretation of the data, and f) potential collaboration in the preparation of a peer-journal article describing the research and findings.
