The group at the University of California, Santa Cruz has historically made very broad contributions in both physics analysis and the development of novel hardware within the US particle physics program. The ARRA award enables the purchasing of computing equipment for analysis of data from the ATLAS experiment at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) as well as replacement of infrastructure for electronics and detector development that is obsolete, since it is typically 15 years old. This will allow the UCSC group to maintain its leading contributions in particle physics research into the future.
