Project Activities Description Public, Society Benefit, General/Other
Quarterly Activities/Project Description This quarter the on-site performance and security network assessments were finished and critical findings and remediation were completed. The project director hosted online meetings to walk the library directors through the findings and discussed how to read their individual reports. In addition, a statement of work was executed to cross train the Statewide Library Consultants and the BTOP technology Trainer on how to conduct a network health checkup. Two libraries have been selected as host sites for the training. At the first library Morrison and Maierle (M-M) will demonstrate how to conduct the check-up, and at the second site the state library staff will conduct the check-up with M-M providing assistance. The Compliance officer accepted a new position and the project director cross-trained staff to fulfill the reporting duties. She also created screen capture videos to demonstrate to library directors how to use the state purchasing contracts. These videos have been uploaded to the state Vimeo page, WebJunction, and will be added to the State Learning Portal. The Project Director also worked on drafts of Best Practices. These drafts will be revised and finalized before the end of the grant. A Samsung Galaxy and a Google Nexus were purchased for the libraries? Technology Petting Zoos. These devices are being used to train patrons. The BTOP Technology Trainer has continued to offer training on mobile devices. She has also collaborated with Workforce Services Division to provide webinars on assisting patrons with finding work, and the FBI, and Homeland security to provide a webinar about Teens and Internet Safety. The Technology Trainer also cross trained the Montana State Library staff members on how to use the Assistive Technology software and devices that were purchased for BTOP libraries.
Jobs Created 5.19
Description of Jobs Created Three positions were created for the purpose of guiding this project for the Montana State Library. A Project Director was hired to coordinate all resources including project staff, library staff, partners, vendors, and public communication. The Project Director is located centrally at the Montana State Library and is expected to be employed through April of 2013. A Compliance Officer was hired as a resource for the project team, libraries, and vendors, to ensure compliance with all Federal, State, and Local laws and reporting requirements. The Compliance Officer position terminated at the end of January 2013. The duties of this position have been assumed by other state employees. A Technology Trainer was hired to coordinate training between library staff and partner agencies, and to provide necessary and requested technology training for library staff at participating libraries. Technology training is integral to the success of sustaining the public computer centers at the libraries. The Technology Trainer is located centrally and is expected to be employed for the duration of the project, until June 30, 2013. Six Library Technology Trainer positions were created at sub-recipient library locations, four part time and two full time positions. All positions are expected to continue as long as funding is available, or until the end of the grant funding period, June 30, 2013. Each technology trainer submits a monthly report showing working hours and brief descriptions of tasks. The monthly hours are aggregated for the trainers and Broadband Technologies Opportunities Program (BTOP) team members. Those figures are divided by the total number of working hours in the quarter (520), then multiplied by the portion paid through ARRA funds (.7973). That figure is reported here. Five of six libraries have plans to sustain the positions after the grant period, depending on budget conditions. A subgrantee created two full time professional positions, one reference librarian and one technical training assistant to staff a mobile public computer center in Missoula County. Those positions are expected to continue beyond the end of the grant, as long as the mobile public computer center is operating. FTE costs associated with the positions are considered in-kind matching funds toward the overall matching grant requirement. Therefore, the two positions created by the subgrantee are not included in the Number of Jobs figure on this report.
