UNIVERSITY OF NORTH CAROLINA AT CHAPEL HILL
Complex Sound Analysis In Normal And Impaired Listeners ARRA
This award is a supplement to a parent Project whose purpose is to characterize the temporal processing deficits in audition that emerge early in the aging process, and to differentiate these deficits from deficits that are associated with more advanced age as well as those that accompany cochlear hearing loss. Importantly, the approach utilizes both psychophysical and electrophysiological methodologies to assess the decline of temporal processing with age. This supplemental award seeks to accelerate progress on this Project through the procuring of state-of-the-art instrumentation and modernization of calibration equipment. Specifically, three upgrades were purchased: (1) an evoked potential recording system; (2) a Digital Signal Processing (DSP) platform for psychoacoustic experimentation; and (3) a modernized sound calibration system.
