UNIVERSITY OF ILLINOIS
These supplemental funds are being used to improve both event ascertainment collection and retention efforts at the University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC) Chronic Renal Insufficiency Cohort (CRIC) Study Clinical Center. UIC has enrolled 521 participants in the CRIC Study and another 327 Hispanics participants in the Hispanic CRIC Study which is a RO1 funded ancillary study to the CRIC Study. As a result, almost 25%of the entire CRIC cohort is enrolled at the UIC Clinical Center. The UIC cohort has a number of unique caharcteristics, including lower socioeconomic status, more advanced CKD, and a greater burden of cardiovascular disease resulting in a higher number of clinical events and greater difficulty retaining participants as diseases progress. The specific aim of this grant are to accelerate and improve rates of event ascertainment and to increase retention rates and data collection by employing off site visits at dialysis units and participant homes. These funds are being used to fund 1 full time coordinator who will spend 80% of her effort collecting events and 20% conducting home and dialysis protocol visits.
