This water line project at Gettysburg National Military Park replaces 3,097 feet of 6 inch and 2100 feet of 11/4 inch deteriorated cast iron waterline with new distribution water lines, lateral water lines, appurtenances and domestic water connections, etc., that supplies seven private structures including the McMillan Woods campground. The water lines to these areas consist of over 5100 feet of deteriorated cast iron water lines that are deteriorated almost to the point of no repair. The existing water lines were installed in the early 1900?s and are well beyond their life expectancy. Their current condition is poor and unreliable. The water lines generally break three to four times a year causing major problems with the residents and the campground visitors that have no potable water until the water leaks are repaired. The water lines have had numerous breaks due to age, corrosion, installation problems and other hydraulic failures. This leads to water contamination of potable water sources. This project will remedy these problems.
