YAVAPAI, COUNTY OF
The Increased Demand for Services (IDS) grant funding was used to support the Community Health Center of Yavapai (CHCY) dental and medical services in Cottonwood (Verde Valley) in eastern Yavapai County, Arizona. The impact of the IDS grant was significant to Verde Valley residents because of the new jobs it created, the jobs it retained and the added capacity in both medical and dental services. Of the $255,166 received through the IDS grant; $184,061 was used to expand dental services and $71,105 to retain jobs in the medical clinic. The medical personnel whose positions were retained were already in place, so the funding of their salaries was moved to the IDS grant effective March 27, 2009. IDS funding was used to retain medical services staff in jobs totaling 1.8 FTE: 0.6 FTE nurse practitioner; 0.6 FTE medical assistant; and 0.6 FTE medical receptionist support. IDS funding supported 2.15 new fulltime equivalents (FTE): 0.45 FTE dentist; 0.9 FTE dental assistant; and 0.8 FTE front office/program coordinator. Dental services were expanded from 2 to 4 days per week. IDS funds was used to pay the dental office lease payment.
