SUULUTAAQ, INC.
The Napa Valley Wine Train Relocation project is a flood control job designed to minimize flooding of downtown Napa, CA. The existing railroad bridge over the Napa River is at an elevation that impedes the flow of the 100 year storm event. This backs up river flows from major storms and floods homes and businesses. In addition the river has an oxbow channel which constricts the major flows further adding to the flooding of downtown. The scope of work includes constructing a new railroad bridge over the Napa River which will be higher than the 100 year storm level, and a second bridge that will allow a high flows to bypass the oxbow channel and prevent over topping of the river banks. The act of building new bridges that are higher than the existing bridge and railroad tracks will cause the remainder of the trackage to be raised. A total of 3300 linear feet of railroad track will be raised up to five feet at the bridges. The raise of the tracks impacts four at grade street crossings. The streets will need to be raised to match the new tracks. As the streets are raised the underground utilities will also need to be raised. This includes water, sewer, storm drains, power, TV, and telephone lines that are currently in use. In addition, impacts to the existing train station will need to be mitigated since the new tracks will be four feet higher than the existing tracks and loading platform. Inprovements at the Train Station include a new loading platform, walkways, and floodwalls.

The project originally was only partially funded and a very limited amount of work could be completed. The addition of Recovery Act funds allowed the entire project to be funded, a new schedule was produced that will allow a majority of the work to be completed in a much shorter time. The addition on operators, foreman, laborers, were all the direct result of additional funding. |
