UNIVERSITY OF MIAMI


This administrative supplement supported the hiring of a new research technician who assists with the scientific tasks of this grant. This grant is accelerating the rate of research discovery which is aimed at understanding the cellular and molecular mechanisms of Glaucoma. Glaucoma is one of the leading causes of blindness among adults in this country. The goals of the Administrative Supplement under the Recovery Act is to allow for job creation and retention and to accelerate scientific research with an economic stimulus. This proposed grant supplement fulfils all of these Recovery Act criteria. In addition to hiring of new staff, which is one of the Recovery Act goals, the hiring of a full time technician is critical for accelerating the rate of research discovery (another Recovery Act goal). This technician will aid in identification, maintaining records and performing research experiments with isolated retinas, maintaining a colony of glaucoma mice, and the analysis of these mice.
