| Quarterly Activities/Project Description |
Quarterly activities: Renovation of building for center based program was completed. Classes starts on April 16. The Children have been receiving all necessary services via the home based option.
Description: Lutheran Social Services (LSS) Early Head Start (EHS) provides family-centered services for low-income families with children birth to three years of age to promote the healthy development of the child and their families. The program will serves 72 pregnant women and children. 60 infants/toddlers in the center or home-based options, and 12 pregnant women.
Our purpose: To partner with parents to promote the development of the total child. This goal is accomplish by providing serves for their cognitive, physical, creative, social, and emotional needs while assisting parents in learning the skills needed to support their child's growth and development. The EHS program collaborates with community partners such as Infants and Toddlers Program (early intervention), WIC, and DHS to ensure children and their families are receiving community services most needed by the family. The program focuses on supporting pregnant teens, teen parents, children with special needs, and high-risk families due to family violence or substance abuse.
Project Deliverables: The ARRA Funds provide for six additional center based classrooms, home-based visits, educational materials, parent transport to community resources; socializations services educational materials, and the purchase of building for the center based program.
Results of Award: Proper developmental and health screenings, evaluations to ensure school readiness, reduction of child maltreatment, by providing quality care and parenting workshops, referrals to resources to reduce potential family stress that may trigger maltreatment , and instruction based on appropriate curriculum that promotes skills development in all domains helping to ensure that the child will be successful in later school.
