RTI International?s project supports ARRA by strengthening the evidence base of the 317 Immunization Grant Program and the reporting methods used by its 64 grantees. RTI?s project will strengthen the evidence base by using ARRA funds to identify, evaluate, and disseminate best practices for the measurement and reporting of immunization and exemption data. Through the project, we will: (1) provide technical assistance to the Colorado and Washington immunization grantees; (2) conduct a survey of grantees in the 50 states and 6 urban areas as well as follow up surveys with 10 selected grantees; (3) develop recommendations and guidelines for improving systems for monitoring vaccination and exemption rates; (4) develop procedures for state and local immunization programs to implement policies, and; (5) conduct workshop training and develop training tools to improve vaccination coverage and exemption rates among kindergarten-aged children at state and local levels.

Quarterly Activities/Project Description The RTI and CDC project team continued to meet weekly to review progress and answer questions. During the past quarter, RTI submitted a final report of best practices for state grantees for monitoring vaccine coverage and exemption rates. RTI also submitted a final report of best practices for the CDC to follow in supporting state grantees in monitoring vaccine coverage and exemption rates. RTI submitted a final draft of a manuscript targeted at the journal, Vaccine. RTI finalized and submitted an Excel-based tool that will facilitate sampling in a variety of scenarios that state grantees commonly face. RTI provided CDC with four webinars that will serve as training tools for state grantees. Finally, RTI submitted a SAS codebook and spreadsheet of findings from a survey of state immunization programs.
