Contracts - AWARD SUMMARY
HENRY M JACKSON FOUNDATION FOR THE ADVANCEMENT OF MILITARY M
Henry M Jackson Foundation has been awarded a contract to provide tumor types to the NCI for the Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA) project. Specifically this award is to fund the provision of 111 cases of breast ductal carcinoma; 32 cases of breast lobular carcinoma; 13 cases of breast other carcinoma. The collection of the specimens is being performed according to standard protocols, developed by us, and consistent with NCI guidelines for best practices for biorepositories. The primary goal has been to accrue samples of the highest quality, with minimal warm ischemic time. Tracking of warm ischemic time is performed. Frozen sections are cut from the sample being prepared for TCGA. This frozen section is evaluated by a board certified pathologist with sub-specialty expertise in the specific tumor type being assessed. The assessment serves as a mechanism to ascertain cellular composition. If the specimen fails our QA, we retrieve additional specimens from that case or consider that case to have failed internal QA. These frozen section slides are then sent with the sample to an NCI core laboratory where pathology metrics are confirmed and molecular analytes extracted. The original de-identified pathology report is provided for each submitted case. Clinical data annotation is available for every case that is being offered as part of TCGA. The data annotation proposed is retrospective. The clinical, pathologic and treatment data, as well as a diagnostic H&E slide, are provided within 60 days of TCGA qualification. Follow up data on all qualified cases is provided within 365 days of initial case submission.

We have completed the Material Transfer Agreement and Data Use Agreement with the TCGA Biospecimen Core Resource. Moreover, we have received Institutional Review Board approval for participation in TCGA. During the first quarter of 2012, TCGA announced they will only be accepting Infiltrating Lobular and "Other" breast carcinomas, as well as an additional 100 Infiltrating Ductal Carcinomas (IDC) from African American Women (AAW) and we continue to screen prospective cases in accordance with these guidelines. The qualification report for cases shipped in October was received on January 4, 2013. Seven of the 8 shipped cases were qualified. The enrollment data for these cases was due on 3/4/13; all cases were data entered and approved by this deadline. To date, we have shipped a total of 112 cases. Of these 112 cases, 2 were ineligible for payment number one and were shipped back during the second quarter of 2012. Of the remaining 110 cases, 110 have been reviewed by TCGA. One Hundred and two (102) of these cases have qualified (92.7% pass rate) and the enrollment data has been completed on all 102 cases. Follow-up data is due on the remaining 18 cases and it will be submitted as the due dates approach (ranging from 4/21/13 to 10/17/13). TCGA is in the process of evaluating the funding level for shipment of additional cases since our pass rate was higher than expected. We will continue to prospectively collect eligible cases for TCGA and screen these cases for TCGA inclusion and shipment as funding allows. |
