Quarterly Activities/Project Description Assist in operating statewide comprehensive, coordinated, effective, efficient and accountable program of vocational rehabilitation which are an integral part of a statewide workforce investment system; and designed to assess, plan, develop, and provide vocational rehabilitation services for individuals with disabilities, consistent with their strengths, resources, priorities, concerns, abilities, capabilities, interests, and informed choice, so that such individuals may prepare and engage in gainful employment. ARRA funds have been used to fund short term projects that will provide long term program benefits, increase the capacity to provide services in the future, and expand services to traditionally underserved and unserved populations. These projects include: Over $20 million has been awarded to approximately 200 Community Rehabilitation Programs and Public Partner agencies. Additional employment opportunities for consumers have been created through over 430 on-the-job training opportunities, and over 30 small business plans have been written. VR Services have been offered to 400 consumers on the waiting list, and 151 individual plans for employment were written. 50 DOR Counselors are participating in a new Mobile Counselors project to assist in the expansion of employment services to unserved and underserved populations. Increased training opportunities have been offered to DOR staff with 40 SVRC?s in Master?s Degree programs. Numerous training opportunities have been offered with over 700 participants. 65 paid rehab counselor interns in District offices throughout CA to provide direct services to consumers. DOR directly operates the Orientation Center for the Blind to provide pre-employment and employment services to individuals who are adjusting to blindness. ARRA funds are being used to make much needed repairs and programmatic upgrades to a facility that is over 40 years old. Nine new Business Enterprise Program (BEP) employment opportunities.
