BOSTON HOUSING AUTHORITY


Grant funds will be used for public housing modernization and redevelopment. At the Washington Beech site, the construction of 37 units of new public housing will be funded by the ARRA grant as part of a larger HOPE VI mixed-finance redevelopment of the entire site. Bathrooms and plumbing in 365 family units at two of Boston Housing Authority’s oldest sites, Charlestown and Mary Ellen McCormack, will be modernized. Boiler replacements and related upgrades will take place at five public housing sites. Preparation for the installation of security cameras at elevators and lobbies and a central monitoring system will be completed at four family and 22 elderly/disabled developments. White roofing systems will be installed on ten buildings at Charlestown and ten buildings at Lenox Street housing sites. The failed masonry building envelope system at the Walnut Park development will be restored. Six underground oil storage tanks will be removed and remediated at the Commonwealth housing site. Lead-based paint abatement at units, interior common areas and building exteriors at four family sites will be undertaken.
