COMMUNITY HEALTH, GEORGIA DEPT OF
Georgia Immunization Program used ARRA funding to increase vaccine availability and services to adults and adolescents and increase the capacity of for data collection for Public Health Immunization data systems. The Georgia WIC program serves approximately 305,516 individuals, working with program partners in Women, Infants and Children our objective would be to Increase vaccinations of mothers and children enrolled in the Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants and Children (WIC). The 18 public health districts and 225 local public health clinics, the Immunization Program activities proposed will target adults to reduce the incidence of vaccine preventable disease and target adolescent population to raise our immunization rates for this group. The Public Health Information Technology Staff hired a database administrator working with the immunization managment staff to enhance, update and build new web-based immunization data collection systems. This position was elimanated August 2011. These include our school and childcare immunization assessment system, provider education data sytem, public on call inquiry data collection system, the perinatal hepatitis B prevention module as part of the statewide disease reporting system, and on line provider registration for our statewide immunization registry, GRITS, and on-line enrollment in the Georgia Vaccines for Children Program. Modification of ARRA plan and redirection of funds request was submitted to CDC in December 2009 and approval was granted in late April 2010.

On 7/1/2011, a new state agency was formed from the Division of Public Health which was a part of the Georgia Department of Community Health. Consequently,all newly created jobs will be separately reported under the new Georgia Department of Public Health . For information purposes, two positons were created to support ARRA activities. One State FTE ARRA Program Consultant was hired to track and coordinate activities. This postion is responsible for coordinating the ARRA funded project by working with Program Director, Vaccine Manager, GRITS staff, Assistance Program Director and Public Health Advisor to assure oversight of vaccine administration reimbursement and accountability for all public health clinics participating in this ARRA adult vaccine project. The position ensures that vaccine administered is appropriately documented in GRITS, and reimbursement for vaccine administration fee is submitted and reviewed for accuracy. The second position is a contract data base developer. This staff person is responsible to work with the Division of Public Health IT staff and the Immunization Staff to enhance, develop or create web base immunization data collection tools. |
