This report reflects American Recovery and Reinvestment Act IDEA-611 grant activity for the final period of obligation of funds. LEAs utilized a total of 99.5% of the $221,357,461 award granted to Washington State. Priority areas included: Purchase of Direct & Support Services, Special Education Staff Development, School-wide Intervention Initiatives, Assistive Technology, Transition, Instructional Material, or Capital.
There was minimal activity to report in the final quarter as LEAs were concluding projects. LEAs reported 6.30 FTE certificated positions were saved or created, 3.34 FTE classified positions were saved or created and .04 FTE vendor positions were saved or created. One LEA concluded their infrastructure project by September 30, 2011 and six LEAs reported payments in excess of $25,000 this period, four of the districts investing in classroom technology. |

Infrastructure projects include: (1) Two classrooms were connected and refitted to form a life skills learning center for secondary Special Education students - the room is now fitted with essential appliances including washer and dryer, stove, refrigerator, etc to teach independent living skills to our students; (2) built a classroom for special education services for students 18-21; (3) installed elevator to allow access to floors for disabled students to allow inside access - prior to this students had to be taken outdoors to travel between floors; (4) a restroom was renovated for high needs special education classroom in a high school; (5) modification of a district conference center buidling for the primary purpose of becoming a pre-school facitility including installation of an overhead fire sprinkler system and related improvements, replacement of current restroom facilities with new that meet ADA requirements, conversion of conference room into two additional classrooms and additional exits to serve converted areas; (6) Installation of Fire Sprinkler & Safety Systems in Special Education Pre-school Building for protection of students as approved in grant application. |
