The American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) is a temporary three year stimulus program designed to preserve and create jobs, promote economic recovery, and assist those impacted by the recession. ARRA Supplemental Funding for the Weatherization Assistance Program (WAP) serves to reduce energy costs for low-income families, particularly for the elderly, people with disabilities, and children, by improving the energy efficiency of their homes while ensuring their health and safety. In Connecticut, ARRA WAP will both create new jobs and retain existing jobs which are at risk of elimination due to the recession. We estimate that 640 persons will be employed with ARRA WAP dollars, including full-time and part-time employees as well as positions funded partially through ARRA WAP. We will weatherize a minimum of 7,058 homes, including 2,800 single family and low-income elderly and family units, thus reducing energy consumption and energy costs for low-income households.
