Michigan offers Early Childhood Special Education (ECSE) programs and related services in early childhood environments. Projects included the following: Continued funding or employed new teachers, paraprofessionals, autism spectrum specialists, speech pathologists, social workers, family support coordinators, child find staff, physical therapists and teacher consultants to develop and support high-quality ECSE programming, to increase inclusive environments, and to support smaller class sizes; Purchased materials, supplies, and playground equipment to meet IEP needs of students; Provided professional development for ECSE teachers and related staff; Supervised ECSE programs and staff to develop preschool initiatives; Reviewed, developed, and/or implemented an RTI system for ECSE programs; Created kits to increase parent/family involvement; Provided summer school services to preschool children with IEPs.

IDEA Part B, Section 619 for ARRA 1512 Reporting:
1) Early Childhood Special Education Classroom Teacher, Preprimary Impaired Teacher, and Early Childhood Developmentally Delayed Teacher - Provides direct classroom instruction to preschool-aged children with disabilities. 2) Early Childhood Special Education Program Aide and Early Childhood Paraprofessional - Assists Early Childhood Special Education Classroom Teacher with instruction; provides one-to-one assistance for children with specific needs. 3) Autism Specialist - Provides services to preschool-aged children diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder. 4) Speech Pathologist/Therapists - Provides speech and language services for preschool-aged children with speech and/or language delays. 5) Project Find Contact/Screener - Accepts referrals for eligibility determinations for special education eligibility; may conduct brief screening assessments prior to formal referral. 6) Early Childhood Professional Development Specialist - Supports Early Childhood Teachers, Aides, and Therapists with curriculum, instruction, classroom management and assessment information and techniques. 7) Data Specialist - Collects, disseminates, develops and maintains individual child/student data for ARRA Special Education Preschool Data as well as IEP data for accountability purposes. 8) Early Childhood Special Education Supervisor - Provides administrative and professional support for Early Childhood Teachers, Aides, and Therapists; conducts administrative and accountability activities. |
