EDUCATION, COLORADO BOARD OF
Educational Technology State Grants to States to improve student academic achievement through the innovative use and the effective integration of new and emerging technology with teacher training, curriculum development, and successful research-based instructional methods in elementary and secondary schools. Goals include helping all students become technologically literate by the end of the eighth grade and, through the integration of technology with both teacher training and curriculum development, establishing research-based instructional methods that can be widely implemented. The primary use of Title IID funds is for professional development activities to improve instruction of teachers. Activities included payment for registrations to national trainings like the International Society for Technology in Education (ISTE) conference, Technology and Leadership conference, the National Educational Computing Conference (NECC) and Technology in Education (TIE). In addition to national trainings, local training programs are created and funded with Title IID funds.

“The purpose of Title IID funds is to improve student achievement through the use of technology in elementary and secondary schools. 50% of funds awarded as competitive, 50% formula. 95% of formula grant funds have been distributed. 81% of the competitive awards have been distributed. The primary use of Title IID funds has been for professional development activities to improve instruction of teachers. Activities included payment for registrations to national trainings. In addition to national trainings, local training programs are created and funded with Title IID funds. Competitive awardees work under the CDE Enhancing Education Through Technology (EETT) grant where they implement and train teachers on how to enhance classroom instruction and collaboration via technology. Examples include districts training and utilizing smartboards, promethean boards, and netbooks to interact with students during the school day. Other sites have developed partnerships with media outlets such as Discovery Channel to bring streaming media and web content into the classroom to enhance science instruction.” |
