DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION OHIO
Provide support to eligible schools that demonstrate the greatest need for the funds and the strongest commitment to use the funds to raise substantially the achievement of their students to enable those schools to make adequate yearly progress.
Through the competitive process awards were made to LEAs that demonstrate capacity to implement school improvement effort and interventions in accordance with 1003(g) guidance. SEA funded a total of 41 schools (35 Tier I and Tier II schools and6 Tier III schools).

The following activities took place:
-Purchase of instructional material, supply and equipment at the LEA level
-Professional development and planning at the LEA level concentrated on implementation of the intervention models
-Hiring of personnel at the LEA level
-SEA transformation specialists assigned to work directly with awarded LEAs
-Winter and Spring quarterly technical assistance sessions conducted
-SEA level provider award
-Technical assistance for persistently low-achieving schools not funded in State FY11
-Internal document review and LEA on-site diagnostic review process of implementation at the LEA level
-Development of Principal Academy in partnership with the Ohio State University
-Grant application, submission, and review of LEA Cohort 2 School Improvement Grants |
