SEATTLE-KING COUNTY WORKFORCE DEVELOPMENT COUNCIL
Background
To provide necessary skills training and placement services to help workers pursue careers within the green jobs energy efficiency, renewable resources and emerging industry sectors.
Background
As one of the Department of Labor?s American Recovery and Reinvestment Act?s (ARRA) Pathways Out of Poverty grants, the GreenLight Project will concentrate on the poorest areas of Seattle. Under a unique partnership and training strategy the GreenLight Project will connect 475 high-school drop-outs, unemployed adults and veterans, previously incarcerated youth and adults, communities of color, individuals with limited English proficiency, and individuals with disabilities to green-sector jobs with training and certifications in green construction, manufacturing, and weatherization.

Reasoning for under spending of total grant: 1. Early closeout of some provider contracts (e.g. we didn?t pull Got Green into the final year); 2. Failure of some providers in the initial grant application to materialize (e.g. Pioneer Human Services modular home manufacturing); 3. Our ability to leverage state training dollars (over $500K) through the Governor?s 10% green jobs match, so in reality, we had a larger project in terms of *total* training dollars than we initially planned.; and 4. Due to declining indirect cost rate over the course of the grant lead to some savings from the initial budget amount.
All expenses have been paid and all sub-contracts have been closed. There will be no additional charges against this grant.
