SACRAMENTO MUNICIPAL UTILITY DISTRICT
Develop and demonstrate renewable energy technologies within SMUD's community. The projects will generate a total capacity of up to 7.1 MW on the SMUD grid bringing clean, reliable and affordable energy technologies to the marketplace and making a difference in the lives of SMUD's community or customers by enhancing their energy choices and their quality of life. The projects will show how solar PV and anaerobic digesters can be readily implemented through collaborative partnerships. This project makes use of otherwise unusable land and utilizes locally available waste biomass resources with minimal impact to the existing distribution system and minimal grid interconnection cost. These projects will help accelerate widespread commercialization of clean renewable energy technologies across United States, diversifying the Nation's electricity supply options, while improving the environment.

| Quarterly Activities/Project Description |
The Sacramento Municipal Utility District?s Community Renewable Energy Development project is continuing to progress. The Simply Solar project is continuing to conduct pre-construction activities in conjunction with the City of Sacramento. The project is located at the Sutter?s Landing Regional Park. The California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA) documents are scheduled to go to the City of Sacramento April 18th meeting for decision. SMUD staff is working with Conergy to finalize the funding agreement for the project. The Anaerobic Digester (AD) project at the Sacramento Regional County Sanitation District (SRCSD) wastewater treatment plant is complete. However, this AD system has encountered vibration issues during operation. The team is currently working on a resolution to the problem; meanwhile the AD is not in operation. For the New Hope dairy project, ABEC New Hope, LLC has finalized financing with New Resources Bank during this quarter. Construction is continuing at the New Hope Dairy. Interconnection with SMUD?s grid is expected in mid-April. Biogas production is also expected by the end of April if inoculums can be acquired for the digester. Regarding the Van Warmerdam Dairy AD project, Maas Energy also finalized project financing. Construction is continuing at the dairy. Biogas production is expected in May. Both projects expect construction to be completed by early 2nd quarter of 2013. |
