EXECUTIVE OFFICE OF THE GOVERNMENT OF THE VIRGIN ISLANDS
The Law Enforcement Planning Commission (LEPC) through the Department of Justice Programs (DOJ)- Office for Victims of Crime (OVC) FY'09 Recovery Act Victims of Crime Assistance (VOCA) Grant Program has been awarded grant funding in the amount of $507,000.00 to implement and enhance direct victim of crime programs for the Virgin Islands, Territory-Wide. LEPC has awarded $481,650.00 in sub awards under this grant program and retained $25,350.00 for program implementation. The State Victim of Crime Assistance (VOCA) Formula Program is one of the primary provider of federal victim of crime funding to state and local jurisdictions. Through the implementation of this grant award , the Virgin Islands will enhance existing Victim Services Programs Territory-Wide. The Recovery Act Victim of Crime Assistance (VOCA) Formula Program was created to support provisional services which enhance or expand existing services. Services include: response to emotional and physical needs of victims of crime; assisting primary and secondary victims of crime to stabilize their lives after victimization; assisting victims in understanding and participating in the criminal justice system and providing victims of crime with a safety measure.
In the U.S. Virgin Islands VOCA funds support : child victims of sexual and physical abuse; victims of domestic violence; victims of DUI; adult victims of sexual assault; adult survivors of incest and child abuse; survivors of homicide victims; victims of assault; victims of elder abuse; robbery victims and other crimes. LEPC has partnered with various service providers and governmental agencies to ensure the successful implementation of the Justice Programs (DOJ)- Office for Victims of Crime (OVC) FY'09 Recovery Act Victims of Crime Assistance (VOCA) Grant Program. These partners include: Council on Alcoholism and Substance Abuse St. Thomas St. John, Inc,; Virgin Islands Department of Justice;Family Resources Center, Inc.;Inter Island Parent Coalition for Change; Inc.;Kidscope,Inc.; Per Ankh, Inc.; Virgin Islands Resource Center for the Disabled, Inc.; Virgin Islands Volunteer Advocates for Children, Inc. and Women’s Coalition of St. Croix, Inc.
