REGENTS OF THE UNIVERSITY OF MINNESOTA
The procurement of a high end computer (HEC) resource is proposed to meet demands of a broad range of NIH-supported biomedical research groups at the University of Minnesota, driven by the need to tackle problems involving the acquisition, analysis and visualization of petascale data from high-performance computing and high-throughput technologies. The HEC resource is a unique, state-of-the-art system built on “Green” computing technology for minimal environmental impact, and is expected to increase business and job retention at the instrument's manufacturer SGI/Rackable Systems both in construction and on-going technical support, and create a wealth of research job opportunities at the University of Minnesota. Ultimately, the HEC system is expected to facilitate breakthroughs in biomedical research and have significant impact on human health.
