The primary construction contract is in the process of being awarded. This grant will provide jobs for bus corridor improvements (e.g., benches, shelters, pavement repairs), installation of fare collection validators at bus terminals, manufacturing of CAD/AVL handheld computers for bus operation monitoring, roadway reconstruction work at bus terminals, and the fabrication and installation of system signage. This work will be performed through both contractors and in-house labor. |

This grant will be used to invest in public transportation by making bus route improvements (e.g., stop consolidation, curb extensions, traffic signal priority, benches, shelters and signage) to 13 of the MBTA's key bus routes and the Silver Line Washington Street bus rapid transit corridor; installing fare collection validators at bus terminals in order to reduce dwell times; deploying CAD/AVL technology that will provide Bus Operations personnel with location and operating characteristics of buses along a particular route in order to improve customer service levels; addressing pavement deterioration at bus terminals; and upgrading MBTA maps throughout the commuter rail, transit and bus system. As such, these projects will invest in transportation, environmental protection, and other infrastructure that will provide long-term economic benefits. The projects will also contribute toward creating jobs and promoting economic recovery. |
