MONTACHUSETT REGIONAL TRANSIT AUTHORITY
$322,767 (100% Federal) of FWHA American Recovery & Reinvestment Act (ARRA) funds were flexed to FTA to restore MART's ARRA capital program to its original level of funding, following the award of MA-96-X003-01 which reallocated the equivalent funds, equal to 10% of MART's ARRA program from capital to operating, as allowable under the Supplemental Appropriations Act of 2009 (H.R. 2346).
This grant will allow MART to invest in public transportation by allowing us to purchase new equipment as well as repair a roof of our van storage facility to bring it into a state of good repair. A budget of $159K for established for a new bus-washer for our Water Street Maintenance Facility in Fitchburg, MA. This equipment is also a line item in the original ARRA grant mentioned above in which capital funds were diverted away to operating funds. This grant allows us to restore the capital funds needed for the bus washer which costs $189,300. The old wash system was over 20 years old and didn't function well. The new system will have a water reclaimation system and three brush rollers which will allow for faster wash times and a major savings in water consumption. This grant also allows for two new capital projects. First, MART will purchase AVL equipment to allow new vehicles purchased in 2010 to have the same functionality as the rest of our fleet. Lastly during the Rehabilitation of our Storage Facility it was determined that a patch job of the roof was insufficient. This grant allows us to supplement the ongoing project with a completely new roof for the existing facility at 840 N. Main St.

All activities associated with this grant have been completed. The bus wash system has been operational since Sept 2010. The roofs on both building was completed in late 2010. Retainage was released in May 2011. The ITS project is also complete. Additional power supplies were purchased which finishes out the grant. However all federal funds have not been drawn down yet. |
