This project will develop a new cross-disciplinary program at the University of Hawai'i Manoa that will include research and curricula in the areas of renewable energy, energy efficiency, and smart grid technologies. The program will produce graduates at B.S., M.S., and PhD. that are trained to get energy related jobs.

| Quarterly Activities/Project Description |
During the period January 1, 2013 to March 31, 2013 we continued to support (both M.S. and Ph.D.) candidates on research assistantships. The supported graduate students took courses and worked on research projects with their advisors. Undergraduate students were also supported who assisted graduate students and faculty on projects. Students and faculty also participated in outreach activities to recruit middle school students into energy and STEM disciplines. REIS studnets and faculty also submitted their research and education results to conferences and journal publications. A list of those publications is forthcoming in the DOE quarterly report. Additional activities included resubmitting an application for a renewable energy and island sustainability certificate at the University of Hawaii. The application is currently with higher administration awaiting approval. |
