SOUTHEAST ALASKA GUIDANCE ASSOCIATION
A SAGA-AmeriCorps crew of 7-9 young people spent 37 service-days renovating a 1 mile (app.) section of the Chilkoot Historical Trail, Near Old Sheep Camp; special attention was paid to cultural historic sites along this section of the trail. The project required stabilizing the trail by removing organics, sighting drainage features, removing inadequate structures, and minor trail relocations; abandoned sections of the trail were revegetated. After the first phase of the project was complete, gravel from a nearby river bank was spread and packed over the cleared trail tread. Project oversight was provided by National Park Service staff; crew support was provided by SAGA staff.
