The staff of the Transition Connections Units has worked to identify opportunities for the clients, such as internship, volunteer, paid work, and post secondary education. Through assessment, job skills were identified. The students explored interests, needs and transferable skills. Orientation and guidance were used to expose the students in a variety of work situations in order to identify a job match. Identification and Orientation of youth with disabilities to participate in the Transition Connections Project continues. Initial discussions and planning has begun in preparation for offering an expanded Summer Vocational program for youth with disabilities. The Summer Program will include intensive job readiness skills training, on the job training, community service placements and job shadowing.
Staff has begun to identify community service placements for the students to be exposed to the world of work. Addtional training is planned for the up coming quarter by the designated TACE Unit, specifically in the area of serving transitional students with disabilities into work and post secondary education for vocational rehabilitation counselors and Transition Connections staff. An after school program will be established Create an after school to provide home work assistance, technology training, career development experience, mentoring and job shadowing. The VR ARRA funding has been instrumental to the expansion of the VR program in the territory, especially for students with disabilities, ages 14-21. |
