More than 2 million Americans suffer from alcohol-related liver disease and about 30,000 die from it each year. Alcohol use together with Hepatitis C virus infection accounts for 70-80% of all cases of chronic liver disease in the world. Studies in this research directly investigate the effect of alcohol on inflammation in hepatitis C virus infection. The funding of the Bio Rad Bio-Plex System and a BioRad Real-time PCR will tremendously accelerate the productivity and the quality of this research.
