Contracts - AWARD SUMMARY
MOSAIC ATM, INC.
follow-up to studies conducted under a 2006 NRA "Metroplex Operations", which was designed to increase understanding of the metroplex; under this project Mosaic ATM will develop Dynamic Big Airspace Design methodologies for dynamically generating the efficient metroplex airspace configurations, which will consist of Dynamic Metroplex Airspace configuration for generating route structures, and Dynamic Route Clustering for identifying a small number of routes such that an assignment of the full set of routes into the "clustered" or "backbone" routes minimizes some error metric

The project was completed on June 20, 2011. All technical objectives were successfully completed and all deliverables were delivered to the Government on schedule. Tasks completed during the April ? June, 2011 reporting period include:
Conducted monthly status telcons with NASA Ames, including preparing and presenting PowerPoint slides to explain our progress and future plans.
Prepared and delivered monthly technical progress reports describing the technical work accomplished during each monthly reporting period and monitor overall progress relative to the project goals and schedule.
Wrote and delivered the Final Report
Prepared PowerPoint viewgraphs for the Final Review. Conducted the Final Review at NASA Langley.
Prepared and submitted the invention disclosure and patent rights reports NASA forms.
Completed a number of improvements to the DMA algorithms to address issues with the algorithm outputs under various traffic situations. Completed software improvements to allow multiple simulation runs to be executed more easily in a batch mode without frequent user interaction.
Applied the developed method for clustering historic aircraft tracks into backbone routes and completed the creation of the baseline airspace designs for the New York, Northern California, and Southern California metroplexes.
Applied the developed DMA algorithm to traffic samples from the three studied metroplexes to produce DMA airspace designs (one for each hour of traffic).
Ran simulations of the DMA-designed airspace and the baseline airspace to evaluate the improvements provided by the DMA concept.
Conducted research studies as previously planned to compare the relative performance of DMA at the three metroplexes, to measure the robustness of the DMA solutions to traffic uncertainty, to study the role of moving the transition fixes in the DMA benefits, and to study the effect of different levels of airspace flexibility.
