OFFICE OF THE GOVERNOR
To support and restore funding for elementary, secondary, and postsecondary education and, as applicable, early child hood education programs and services in States and local educational agencies. A total of fourty-nine individual projects (22 elementary and secondary; 27 for postsecondary) will be implemented in accordance to American Samoa's commitment to advance education reforms in four areas: (1) making improvements in teacher effectiveness and ensuring that all schools have highly qualified teachers; (2) gathering information to improve student learning, teacher performance, and college-and-career-readiness through enhanced data systems that track progress; (3) making progress toward college-and-career-ready standards and rigorous assessments that will improve both teaching and learning; and (4) improving achievement in low-performing schools through intensive support and effective interventions.

This is the final quarter to expend all contracts and payments that were encumbered since the September 30, 2011 deadline. Most of the construction work are completed for all public schools. It is noted that 6,009,584.58 of this grant was used for SFSF-Gov't Services Fund as approved by USDOE. The GAN was not amended, in accordance with the latest reprogramming which occurred and was approved by USDOE during the month of September 2011, which was the dealine period to SFSF GSF.

ASDOE and ASCC were able to obligate about close to 100% of its SFSF-education funds before September 30, 2011.
Both grant awards to ASDOE and ASCC are expected to provide more professional development opportunities for teachers and major improvements in ASDOE's financial management system. Newly renovated classrooms and science laboratories are already in good use as well. |
