WEILL MEDICAL COLLEGE OF CORNELL UNIVERSITY
This award seeks to support the purchase of an Agilent 6460 Triple Quadrupole (QqQ)mass spectrometry system to be used by ten NIH-supported major users at Weill Cornell Medical College and many minor useres for quantification of important biomolecules. The instrument will fulfill a critical unmet need of investigators at WCMC for small molecule Quantification and will be made available by inclusion in our existing MS Core Facility. The Weill Cornell Medical College MS Core Facility has been in operation since 1997 and continues to be the only source of MS instrumentation and support at the Medical College and its associated hospitals. This instrument will replace an outdated triple quadrupole MS that is now 13 years old and unusable for our intended purposes due to a source design that precludes interfacing with an LC system, poor sensitivity, inability to ake rapid transitions for multiplex multiple reaction monitoring experiments and inability to utilize ion sources, operating and analysis software platforms that integrate our current liquid chromatography and mass spectrometry systems for targeted and untargeted metabolite profiling. This instrument will support a major commitment of Weill Cornell to broad-base Metabolite profiling, both targeted and untargeted as powerful new technologies for support of biomedical investigations.
