The Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ) has awarded a contract to American Institutes for Research. The contract is entitled Community Forum. The contract was awarded in the amount of $9,999,742. The purpose of this contract is to establish a Citizen's Forum to develop new mechanisms and refine existing approaches to eliciting public views as an input to health care decisions. - Note: AHRQ is revising this press release to inlcude it's current title of "Community Forums" and has instructed AIR to use this as the basis of the Award description.

| Quarterly Activities/Project Description |
During this quarter, AIR completed several activities to evaluate mechanisms to elicit informed public input: submitted a draft of the final report outline; conducted initial data analyses (e.g., of the deliberative experience and knowledge and attitudes surveys, as well as analyses of participant comments about boundaries and values); shared preliminary findings during regularly scheduled teleconferences; held the first in-person evaluation meeting on February 28, 2013 to share additional preliminary findings and gain input on next steps. AIR has completed activities related to literature review on deliberative methods.
We accomplished numerous activities to support stakeholder engagement in the EHC program: conducted introductory webinar with recruited panel of payers and distributed review materials; conducted telephone interviews with payers and distributed second set of review materials; developed a report to summarize the findings from four surveys on materials developed by the U.S. Preventive Services Taskforce (USPSTF) and presented findings to AHRQ staff; selected three winning teams for the “AHRQ Evidence-Based Care (EBC) Challenge;” finalized topics to discuss in two deliberative sessions with consumers about medical evidence and preventive health care services; for these two sessions, we also finalized educational materials, case studies, facilitation guides, obtained IRB approval and contracted with a recruitment firm; facilitated a conference call with the Technical Expert Panel (TEP) and drafted a white paper to identify needs and resources for individuals or organizations interested in developing a patient-run registry; developed and delivered a presentation to AHRQ staff to describe the deliberative method process and share video highlights from the public deliberations.
AIR has completed activities that support the EHC Stakeholder group.
We continued to hold weekly management meetings with AHRQ as well as internal management meetings. |
