PUBLIC INSTRUCTION, WISCONSIN DEPT OF
This grant funds 3 subprojects. 1) P20: Design, develop, and implement a statewide P20 longitudinal data system (data warehouse) to capture student data from kindergarden to high school to college, and beyond. 2) Educator Licensing On-line includes new business processes and technology to enable a more efficient processing of teacher licensing requests plus capture better data on educators in Wisconsin - DPI will then move this educator data to the data warehouse and 3) Early Childhood - Analyze the systems and datasets available in early childhood programs through out Wisconsin that might feed the data warehouse.

Progress continues on WISEdash. New dashboards for ELL assessments, post-secondary enrollment, and graduation data were rolled out this quarter. Next in line are dashboards for the early learning PALS assessment and the Measures of Academic Progress (MAP). The public reporting project hit delays due to policy related issues around redaction and technical issues within the toolset, but the team worked through those issues with the support of others including SLDS. The Department of Ed GEAR UP grant gave DPI an opportunity to establish new school improvement professional development tools as “digital data retreats� and that project remains on track. The project also uses a process for more district-level feedback loops on all WISEdash tasks. We are also partnering with REL Midwest on conducting a formative evaluation. The early childhood project continues its transition from the ARRA grant to the RttP grant. A project kickoff meeting was held with stakeholders this week. The P20 project has focused increasingly on sustainable data governance structures, again with help from SLDS resources. Partners continue to work very collaboratively on these decisions. The online licensing (ELO) project is underway, but due to a lag in procurement process we are adjusting the workplan to ensure priorities are addressed. Perhaps the best news from this quarter is learning that the DPI budget request for its priority technology efforts, i.e., a statewide student information system, an educator resource portal and virtual professional learning community platform (WISElearn), and WISEdash continuation, were all included in the Governor’s budget request for the FY13-15 biennium. In addition to our requests, the Governor also included a funding request to create a workforce LDS mechanism. |
