WVHTC Foundation was awarded this contract to build the Assessment Environment. The design will be based on a contemporary type of flight system known as Integrated Modular Avionics (IMA) architecture. This type of system archtecture is currently being used in the latest aircraft. The integrated modular avionics architecture replaces boxes containing individual processors and applications with a single box performing all the functions on a one or more processor boards. The Verification and Validation Research for Flight-Critical Systems program is devoloping techniques, methods, and tools to provide time- and cost-effective assurance of safe and reliable systems operation through design development, verification and validation. One tool that is required to support this research is the Assessment Environment (AE). The AE is comprised of two major components: the System Under Test (SUT) and the V&V Research Test Bench (V&VRTB). The SUT contains an Integrated Modular Architecture system which represents the system which is to be verified and validated using the methods and techniques developed by the research. The Verfication and Validation Research Test Bench provdes the means to perform testing and record the results.
