Contracts - AWARD SUMMARY
SIGMA SPACE CORPORATION
NASA Goddard Space Flight Center (GSFC) has a need to obtain support in achieving the goals of Operation IceBridge. Operation IceBridge is a data gap filler project between ICESat-1 (Ice, Cloud and Land Elevation Satellite) and ICESat-2 (Ice, Cloud and Land Elevation Satellite), which will not be launched until the 2015 time frame. The goals of Operation IceBridge are to study and monitor the changing areas of the Cryosphere, areas of frozen water, including the Earth?s ice sheets and sea ice and glaciers. Operation IceBridge will use airborne platforms to maintain altimetry time series and monitor important areas of land ice and sea ice until the launch of NASA?s next satellite-lidar mission (e.g. ICESat-2 or DESDyni (Deformation, Ecosystem Structure and Dynamics of Ice)). Operation IceBridge will monitor the sea ice extent, snow cover on sea ice, ice sheet elevation, ice sheet near surface firn to monitor accumulation trends (firn is snow which has persisted through one melt season), ice sheet mass balance and the bed topography of the ice sheet using airborne instruments. Additionally Operation IceBridge will collect bed map of the Greenland and Antarctic ice sheets. Along with the bed topography the surface topography or surface elevation of the Ice Sheet is needed to determine the total mass (amount) of ice and how it changes from year to year. This effort will follow on to a grant to continue using the Airborne Topographic Mapping (ATM) scanning laser altimeter to monitor surface elevations over the Greenland and Antarctic Ice Sheets. ATM is a primary instrument that shall be and has been used to bridge the data gap between the ICESat satellites.

Following tasks were performed during this quarter.
? Processing and QA examination of the Airborne Topographic Mapper (ATM) data collected during 27 missions from the Spring 2010 NASA IceBridge DC8 and P3 aircraft deployments was completed and the data uploaded to the National Snow and Ice Data Center (NSIDC)
? ATM, GPS, CAMBOT and INS data underwent all ATM processing and quality assurance procedures before final data products were uploaded to the National Snow and Ice Data Center (NSIDC).
? The Fall 2010 DC8 Antarctic ATM lidar data ATM, GPS, CAMBOT and INS data underwent all ATM processing and quality assurance procedures before final data products were uploaded to the National Snow and Ice Data Center (NSIDC).
? The Sigma team completed the final QA for the Fall 2010 DC8 Antarctic ATM data set and uploaded the data to NSCID via ftp transfer by March 23, 2011. As a note, the Sigma team has delivered this data set well before the 6 month IceBridge data delivery requirement.
? The ATM GPS trajectories and digital camera ?CAMBOT? data processing was also completed and that data uploaded to the National Snow and Ice Data Center (NSIDC) along with the ATM data.
