Survey results indicated that the conference did in fact energize the community about the social, economic and educational benefits of the museum. When attendees were asked if the foundation shared resources that could potentially increase partnerships with various industries to promote and live Guam?s tangible and intangible heritage majority agreed.
Conference attendees also valued each topic presented and marked the following top five speakers as doing the best in linking resources and information to one?s business, organization or special event: Cultural Activities in Guam?s Economy ? An Overview By: Judith Selk Flores, PhD.; Making Museums in Small Island Communities By: Prof. Amareswar Galla, PhD, Executive Director, International Institute for the Inclusive Museum; Building Sustainable Communities by Supporting Local Producers By: Bill McDonald, President, Guam Farmer?s Cooperative Association; Know Our Island. Know Our History. "I Hale'ta" By: Rita P. Nauta, Guampedia Managing Director; Traditional Fishing on Guam Producer is Judy Amesbury, Micronesian Archaeological Research Services
On each survey form, participants were asked how natural history and cultural heritage might be embraced throughout various enterprises. A reoccurring suggestion was to provide various forms of incentive to those that nurture these aspects in their businesses. Prime examples of such incentives are as follows: Changing local zoning laws; Re-visiting laws (legal requirement for GEDCA QC firms) that are specific to entities committed to the initiative; Enforcing Guam Product Seal program; Promoting participants of program, publicity highlights, grant and loan availability; and Establishing curation fees.
A common factor in the multiplicity of suggestions is more opportunities to partner with the museum; and for museum officials to organize more working group sessions, conferences and lectures for the community.
