AUBURN UNIVERSITY
Equipment and Training for Rural Alabama Public Computer Centers Auburn University Outreach (AUO) and its partner organizations have developed the objectives for this project to closely parallel several of the Broadband Technology Opportunities Program (BTOP) core statutory purposes:
1) Provide access to broadband service to consumers residing in unserved areas.
2) Provide improved access to broadband service to consumers residing in under served areas.
3)Provide broadband education, awareness, training, access, equipment, and support to schools, libraries, etc.
4) Stimulate the demand for broadband, economic growth, and job creation.
5) Enhance broadband services for health care delivery, education, or children.
The initiative will deploy 1,080 new computer workstations and replace nearly 1,640 more at 114 rural libraries and 46 public schools and 1 community center across Alabama. The project will provide Alabama libraries and schools with a detailed evaluation of their technological needs and service options. It will also deploy audio-visual conference technology at these Public Computer Center (PCC) locations, and instal Wi-Fi networks that will expand wireless broadband Internet access.

PCC Center staff has trained 17,470 individuals for 93,311 total hours of instruction. |
