The equipment purchases will enable Xavier to teach professional nursing practice skills to increased numbers of students. All equipment will be utilized in the MSN nurse educator concentration for preparing them to use advanced technology in faculty careers. Skills that will be enhanced through this equipment include: wound and trauma care, hands-on intravenous drug administration, applied infection control principles related to invasive tubes in bodies, complex medication administration, real-time auscultation of a variety of heart sounds to pre-licensure RN/MSN MIDAS students, use of CNL advanced health assessment skills in simulated scenarios, and, for future nurse educators, use of advanced technology in teaching strategies. Requested equipment includes trauma kit, IV pumps, adult and infant IV simulators, ventilator, four advanced catheterization models and two medication dispensing units. In addition four beds, head walls and medium fidelity mannequins will be purchased and placed in a planned expanded laboratory space which will take place during the summer 2010.
As of 09/30/2011, $280,495.28 has been spent on equipment and all equipment has been delivered. Xavier submitted a prior approval request and was approved to spend the remaining $22,202. Of that amount, $18,916.45 was spent, leaving a balance of $3285.55. All expenditures have been completed and all equipment has been delivered. |
