| Quarterly Activities/Project Description |
This project involves major renovations to laboratory spaces that will house three groups of instruments, the combination of which forms a coherent and multidisciplinary facility for research in Earth and space science and materials physics. The three segments of the renovated facility will be devoted to (1) electron and ion beam instrumentation and associated sample preparation, (2) spectroscopic imaging and analysis, and (3) computational infrastructure. All parts of the renovated facility will be used for research and training 100% of the time. The renovation work for the spectroscopic imaging laboratory was completed first. Final electrical, mechanical, and fire marshall inspections for the Data Center are completed and computers are moved in. The Data Center has been completed to the satisfaction of the Architect and Owner. For the electron and beam laboratory, construction began November 6 and is proceeding on schedule for completion in May (porevious estimated March completion has been delayed due to a permitting issue, now resolved). During the period October 1 2012 - December 31 2012, three sub-recipients were paid by the main subcontractor, adding up to 568 hpurs of work. This is the most recent report available. The next qurterly report will be completed in April. The work completed was done by laborers, drywallers, and electricians, as well as engineers and project managers.
