TRUSTEES OF COLUMBIA UNIVERSITY IN THE CITY OF NEW YORK
This grant is is to advance comparative effectiveness research designed to improve hypertension care delivery and population outcomes by building on an existing institution-focused data infrastructure to create a robust community-focused data infrastructure that will support the kinds of innovative studies needed to effectively tackle seemingly intractable public health problems. This will be done through the Washington Heights/Inwood Informatics Infrastructure for Community-Centered Comparative Effectiveness Research (WICER). WICER contains a research data warehouse that integrates patient-level data, including clinical data from multiple facilities, settings and sites of care, with person-level self-reported information and will map the linked data to variables that support prospective comparative effectiveness research studies. It also will provide tools to support researchers in accessing this infrastructure to perform retrospective analyses and recruit patients for research studies. We will then demonstrate how this infrastructure can support three comparative effectiveness studies on hypertension.

This grant advances comparative effectiveness research (CER) to improve hypertension (HT) care, delivery and population outcomes by building on an existing data infrastructure (DI) creating a community-focused DI to support innovative studies to tackle public health problems. Through the Washington Heights/Inwood Informatics Infrastructure for Community-Centered Comparative Effectiveness Research (WICER) study, investigators will build a research data warehouse that integrates patient-level data, including clinical data from multiple facilities, settings and sites of care, with person-level self-reported information. It will map linked data to variables that support prospective CER studies and will provide tools to support researchers in accessing this infrastructure to perform retrospective analyses and recruit patients for research studies. We will then demonstrate how this infrastructure can support three CER studies on HT. First quarter infrastructure activities included the launch of a redesigned WICER website and preparations to load CROWN (data services) and a second set of VNSNY data into the clinical data warehouse. We are also beginning the process of adding community survey data to warehouse and hosting the information in RedCap. Collaboration between the EHR (Electronic Health Record) plugin and SPRINT research teams launched a piloting using the new IMPACT system. Follow-up recruitment for the community survey has been completed for the CCPH (Community-Campus Partnerships for Health) cohort and we are almost 50% complete with the household surveys. ACN (Ambulatory Care Network) recruitment is now up at four clinic sites. Recruitment continues for the HTN Diagnosis CER studies, with 289/300 and the SPRINT(Systolic Blood Pressure Intervention Trial) study is now in follow-up visits only. Sub-award status with the Visiting Nurse Service of NY (VNSNY) is on track and also in the follow-up visit phase. |
