PAGE CONSERVATION, INC.
This project was awarded to assess, remove, conserve and reinstall the Robert Motherwell mural at the John F. Kennedy Federal building in Boston Massachuesetts. This GSA Task Order is now for assessment only. The assessment has been performed and the treatment is outlined as follows. The only item that remains on this task order is submittal of photographs. The photodocumentation will be submitted with the treatment photodocumentation so that the before, during and after images will be together in one final report. GSA determined that the windows immediately adjacent to this mural would not be replaced, but the mural should be conserved. Rather than removing the mural from the wall, scaffold will be erected so that conservation may take place with the mural in-situ. This large mural (13' x 15'8") entitled "New England Elegy" is an oil on canvas and the base of the mural is 11'4" off the floor. This monumental work is compromised by very heavy ambient dust and grime. The work has been removed and remounted in the past. The project will entail: photodocumentation before, during and after treatment, erect scaffold tower from which to appropriately clean mural, removing drips, accretions, fingerprints, consolidate any flaking paint. Treatment Record with photodocumentation and Recommended Cyclic Maintenance to be provided to GSA.
