UNIVERSITY OF PUERTO RICO-MEDICAL SCIENCES CAMPUS
The scope of the "Clinical Research Education and Career Development (CRECD) in Minority Institutions" (R25RR17589) is to enhance the participation of minority health professionals in clinical and translational research that will have a significant impact on the health of the community, particularly on underrepresented minorities. This supplement is within the existing approved scope of the project and consonant with the Recovery Act goals in promoting job creation, economic development, and accelerating the pace and achievement of scientific research. The staff hired through this supplement will be supported after the two year term by the Hispanic in Research Capability (HiREC) Endowment Program (S21MD001830). The Specific Aim of the parent grant addressed by this supplement is the following: Develop the research capacity of minority health professionals through the Master of Sciences in Clinical Research (MSc) Program. Under this Specific Aim, this supplement will address the following two objectives: 1. Transform the program's offering with new courses, seminas, and workshops in cutting-edge clinical and translational science and 2. Expand the scope of the program targeting qualified and interested candidates. To achieve these program's objectives, we are proposing the following diversified activities: Expand on line training; Electronic Portfolios; Online Tutorials; Online Mentoring; Clinical and Translational Skills; training of clinical scientists in translational research and expanding the scope of the program by targeting qualified and interested candidates. The objective of this supplement project is to provide new training opportunities for clinical and translational scientists. Our aim is to expand our capabilities for support to scholars. The activities planned in this supplement will help us prepare a cadre of Hispanic clinical researchers that will ideally positioned to initiate original and significant clinical investigations addressing the multifactorial health disparities between minority and non-minority populations.
